About Martin County OHV Club
The Martin County OHV Club was started by a hand full of motorcycle enthusiasts much like yourself. They have worked for many years looking for suitable land for an off road riding area. We are happy to announce that we have found that site and are getting closer to making it a reality every day.
Martin County was the only County enlightened enough to understand the need for such a facility. They knew that many of their citizens enjoy off road motorcycles and ATV,s and they made it a priority to find us a location.
While the County was looking for land for the OHV club they were also attempting to find a site for the Sunshine Trap and Skeet Club. The gun club had recently been forced off their old location due to urban expansion.
The South Florida Water Management District recently acquired a large parcel of land in Martin County for a water reclamation project and was willing to transfer some of the unneeded acreage back to Martin County for recreational purposes. The Parks Department immediately thought of the OHV club. They explained that if the OHV Club and the Gun Club could work together on the same site, they would help us move the project forward.
We met with the Sunshine Gun Club and immediately knew we could work together in harmony on the same site. The members of the gun club were great guys and it turns out we had a lot of common ideas and goals. We immediately hired a land planner to help get the project started. The site plan you have seen at local shops as well as on this site is a result of that effort. The land planner was able to blend these very different uses in one harmonious layout that worked great for both parties.
On July 29th 2008 the Martin County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the project and move forward with the land lease.
Up until this point we chose to fund everything out of our own pockets, we didn't want to ask for financial help until we had received approval. Now we are confident that the project will become a reality and we are putting out the call for help to the off road riding community. Funding is needed to continue the site plan process as well as cover legal and administrative costs. In the beginning this project will take time and effort from volunteers, but we are confident that as we move forward the club will be in a position to pay workers and manage the track like any not for profit business.
This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. In an era of anti motorcycle, anti noise and anti gun, it hasn't been easy to get to this point. Every day we hear about more riding land being shut down and the citizens are once again left without a place to ride. If we pull together now to keep the process moving we will be riding before you know it.
Our vision for this park is to make it an example of how good an organized and managed riding area can be for the community. Let's show everyone that we can do this without negatively impacting our neighbors. Let's change the perception of motorcycles with the general public. Show them that this is a fun family activity enjoyed by thousands of people that just want a place to spend time with their friends and family doing what they love, riding there off Road motorcycles and ATV's.
Let's not miss this opportunity to build the best riding area in the South East. We can make this a reality, with the help and support of the off-road and MX community we can build a facility that will be enjoyed now and for generations to come.
Keep checking back with this web site as we move forward, there are opportunities for you to help in many different areas.
Thank you for your support
